Didn’t quite get Father’s Day right

Had a great day, up pretty early and over to Wellingborough to umpire the U11′s (who got a bit of a drubbing). Then home for lunch with my family, parents and my sisters family.

How come I wound up cooking my famous BBQ for 11 on Father’s Day? Anyway we had a great dinner and our first chance to celebrate my Mum’s MBE as a family with 3 bottles of Champagne.

Now going to settle down to watch Angels and Demons to see what all the fuss is about, as a fully paid up member of the Illuminati it should be quite interesting.

England to win World T20

I am going to make a bold statement and predict an England win in the T20 final that starts in an hour. I base this on the fact that all 3 ITCC sides lost yesterday. The Boro U11′s lost this morning and The Saints have just blown the Guinness Premiership Semi.. Surely someone is going to win for me this weekend!!

Bring Down the Government; They Don’t, They Don’t Speak for Us

I don’t think that this Election could deliver a result that would make me happy. When you get to my age you can tell when you are being lied to. I also loath the concept of spin, avoiding direct answers to questions and the other tools of the modern politician.

The mere fact that someone is desperately keen to lead the country is the main reason why they shouldn’t be allowed to do it. I think the best leaders are reluctant ones who are thrust into the job before they want to do it, like the Queen.

I would rather have a British version of the Dalai Lama, any suggestions for the first one? My choice would be James May.

Explaining an Election

My son Simon can vote in the next election and we had a chat today about the main Parties and their relative merits. Sad to say that I couldn’t leave him enthused about the democratic process. A better description would be that approaching an election is like walking down the road and being confronted by three large dog turds and deciding which one to tread in.

I have been accused of being too negative in my various online activities, Twitter, Facebook my blog etc. So I have decided to look for the good in everyone and everything, instead of using the freedom the www gives you, to just moan about stuff.

So rather than complaining that it took me 3 hours to get back from Uppingham yesterday because of half an inch of snow, I will just comment on how pretty it looked driving through winter wonderland that was the Welland Valley.

Also, the fact that the head gasket blew on my car actually can be viewed as an opportunity to get some new wheels. I feel like a new man.

At this rate I can see myself doing one of those lecture tours like Anthony Robbins. No wonder he is always so full of beans, he has discovered the power of taking large amounts of cash off aspirational folk.

Simple Pleasures

There’s nothing like that full-up feeling that you get after Christmas dinner and tea to make you appreciate really simple food.

I have rediscovered the joy of hot buttered toast and Cornflakes with full fat milk and a spoon of sugar.

I am focussing on foods that don’t turn me into a bigger producer of gas than Russia, which seems to be the side effect of all other popular Christmas fayre. If I see another brussel sprout I will inflate.
