My Mum has just hit the “Big Seven O” and we had a party to celebrate at ITCC. 65 of her friends and relatives enjoyed lunch and drinks, with speeches from her elder sister Dorothy, me and her youngest grandchild Sophie.
The whole event was recorded with some excellent images taken by local photographer Sarah Brooke, who happens to be part of the family as well.

Nobody try to tell me that winter has anything to offer. I have set myself a target to be living somewhere with a climate similar to this all year (or close) by the time I am 55. I like England but I would be happy looking at via a web cam or Google Earth.
Had a great day, up pretty early and over to Wellingborough to umpire the U11’s (who got a bit of a drubbing). Then home for lunch with my family, parents and my sisters family.
How come I wound up cooking my famous BBQ for 11 on Father’s Day? Anyway we had a great dinner and our first chance to celebrate my Mum’s MBE as a family with 3 bottles of Champagne.
Now going to settle down to watch Angels and Demons to see what all the fuss is about, as a fully paid up member of the Illuminati it should be quite interesting.
So it turns out Gene Hunt is a St Peter type character guiding dead coppers to heaven, which happens to be a pub. Didn’t see that one coming!! Like the idea though and is the door still open for some more?
I don’t think that this Election could deliver a result that would make me happy. When you get to my age you can tell when you are being lied to. I also loath the concept of spin, avoiding direct answers to questions and the other tools of the modern politician.
The mere fact that someone is desperately keen to lead the country is the main reason why they shouldn’t be allowed to do it. I think the best leaders are reluctant ones who are thrust into the job before they want to do it, like the Queen.
I would rather have a British version of the Dalai Lama, any suggestions for the first one? My choice would be James May.
My son Simon can vote in the next election and we had a chat today about the main Parties and their relative merits. Sad to say that I couldn’t leave him enthused about the democratic process. A better description would be that approaching an election is like walking down the road and being confronted by three large dog turds and deciding which one to tread in.
Why do I always get toothache on a Saturday night so I can’t get to the dentist. I am a grumpy sod at the best of times but when I’ve got toothache I am unbearable.
If you don’t have anything to do on a Saturday night, why not try an evening at the Ice Hockey? We tend to go about 4 or 5 times a year and it is a good night out. MK Lightning play in the English Premier League and are one of the better teams so they win far more than they lose.
You get a fast paced, all action sport, the odd fight, 12 inch hot dogs and the opportunity to escape the Saturday Night TV.
Right outside the Ice Arena is a lap dancing club with the most hilarious name – The Phoenix Club. So in the words of Barry Potter, you can “Pull off into paradise”.
Having a night in listening to a variety of music on YT. Currently listening to Shine on you crazy diamond, which is a bit of a guilty pleasure as I never was a big Floyd fan. Later I will be sampling Siouxsie and the Banshees, now moved onto Icicle Works, Love is a Wonderful Colour is our song (that is Ange and I). Also having some Prefab Spout and Scritti Politti. Wreckless Eric is another old fave for anyone who can remember the Stiff tours.
Lastly I will come out of the closet and admit to being a fan of Willie Nelson
I am pretty sure it was the fault of my mega corporate web host who show all of the customer service skills of a clearing bank. Anyway, I have amazed myself by fixing it and upgrading to a new version of WordPress. So I am back, bigger,better, stronger and grumpier. Look out for more moaning.
